Ombre Nails Tutorial

Tuesday, October 30, 2012

It's been more than a year since my last tutorial. Oopsy.

Decided to do this tutorial cause it's the end of the year (OMGWTFBBQ ALREADY?!) and I'm sure you guys will be swamped with loads of events/gatherings/celebrations and whatnots. So this super simple and super quick nail tutorial is for those who want pretty nails without paying for manicure. Not that we are cheap but it's always good to save money!

What I'm using for this tutorial:
  • Topshop Base/Top Coat
  • Face Shop Glitter Gold Polish
  • NARS Jungle Red Polish
  • Skin Food Base Coat

What you need for this tutorial:
  • Base & Top Coats
  • 2 Nail Polish (choose contrasting colours like Black/White or Purple/Silver)
  • Scissors
  • Sponge (can be kitchen or makeup sponge as long as the holes aren't too fine)
  • Cotton Buds
  • Nail Polish Remover
Step 1: Base Coat then Base Colour (one or two coats). The NARS polish wasn't really nice with just one coat so I applied two coats.

Step 2: Cut the sponge so that the width is about the same as your nails. If you're afraid that you might ruin your nails, do Step 2 before Step 1.

Step 3: When Base Colour is dry, apply Top Colour on the tip of the sponge, dab away the excess polish on a piece of unwanted paper/paper tissue (RECYCLE) then slowly dab the Top Colour starting from the tip of your nails and move inwards. You might want to experiment with the dabbing part first so that you can achieve the effect that you want. More or less ombre, up to you!

Step 4: Apply Top Coat after the polish is dry and remove excess polish on fingers with cotton buds and polish remover.

And that's all you need to do. SO EASY RIGHT?! Have fun painting your nails!
