The Pelayo Shirt

Saturday, May 29, 2010

Ever since I saw this tee shirt from Pelayo's site KateLovesMe, I've been itching to make one. After so long, I finally went out to get the materials and got down to business.

This is a super easy DIY and it'll take around 45 minutes only, it's the pinning part that's tedious.

You need:
1) A tank top or tee shirt, I used a tank I got from Korea this time. Best if it's not too loose, cause the cross would be out of shape when you wear it.
2) Loads of safety pins, prepare around 100. The amount used depends on how tightly knit you want the pins to be. I got the pins from Spotlight at Plaza Singapura.
3) Ruler and sewing chalk.

The size of the safety pins I used are around 3.5cm.

Estimate where you want the cross to be, use a ruler and chalk to sketch out the size and width of the cross.

Start pinning!

Almost done.

And all done! Pin a few vertical ones in the middle of the cross to make it look more complete.

I'm giving away this tank top soon! Do check the site for more details.

It's Killing Me!

Thursday, May 27, 2010

I've been wanting these babies ever since they came out like more than a year ago! But I'm still dreaming of owning them. Anyone knows where I can get a brand new Size 37? I'll love you forever. I've no particular preference for the colour cause I'm in love with all the colours!

Shadow Shade

Wednesday, May 26, 2010

That's my super hero name, SHADOW SHADE. Sounds awesome. I got it from some super hero name generator website cause I felt that my outfit kinda looks like some Wonder Woman outfit except that it's more fashionable and it's black.

Dress (worn as a top), BeyondBlackDreams. Leggings, Bugis. Cuff, Blackmarket. Rings, Korea. Shoes, Acne Atacoma.

What do you think of my hero-ish outfit?

The Ninth Mix

Monday, May 24, 2010

I'm back from my holiday but I'm sick and it really sucks. Oh well, hope that I'll feel better soon cause my to-do list is getting too damn long.

Something for summer.

All items from Topshop.

What a Square Day

Sunday, May 23, 2010

I was inspirational-less that day but I did manage to come up with this outfit. I love the tank dress that I got from Cotton On for just $10! I tucked in one side to make it asymmetrical, I'm kind of obsessed with that recently.

Oh, I've yet to formally introduce this claw ring that I got from Korea. Awesome right?

New nail polish that I got from Sephora, it's called Eighteen Grass by POP.

Tank dress (worn as top), Cotton On. Leggings, Bugis. Jacket, Korea. Rings, Korea. Sandals, Urban Outfitters.

wonderwool + Fabrix = Loft & Public

Friday, May 21, 2010

I was invited to the launch of wonderwool on the 8th of May and I was excited to see what they had to offer. wonderwool is unlike most shops you see in Haji Lane cause most of them are either boutiques that bring in new/vintage clothes from overseas or boutiques of local designers.

So what does wonderwool sell?

They sell your preloved clothes! Aren't you excited cause you can sell your clothes and buy more? Well, you can do it all in wonderwool. The owner, Anna, always wanted to set up a shop with the "thrift store" concept cause she felt that a lot of girls tend to wear their clothes once and after that the clothes would be abandoned, and she also felt that vintage items in local stores are overpriced. Thus the creation of wonderwool, where you can sell your clothes may it be vintage or not and where all the clothes are afforable (that includes vintage items). Be a member and you'd be rewarded with Wonder$ with each purchase which you can redeem a gift or vouchers with. Take in prices are accessed by the quality, the brand, the condition and the original price of the clothing.

This is Anna at the entrance of the Loft.

wonderwool is right next to the stairs!

Tonnes of clothes and accessories for you to select from! Oh, did I mention that Anna selects and brings in brand new clothes from overseas as well?

Sweet staff of the Loft.

I must say that I'm impressed with the decoration.

There were yummy cupcakes during the launch!

So cute right.

One of the posters I found amusing.

Seems like it was romper day!

Across the hall from wonderwool is where Fabrix is situated at! You can find quirky lifestyle knick knacks and of cause Fabrix cases for your iPod, MacBook, Blackberry and what nots.

Photo taken from Fabrix.

James and Stacey came along to the launch after the photo-shoot during the day.

Wonderful goodie bag that Anna prepared for me!

wonderwool & Fabrix is located at 16A Haji Lane.

You can check out their websites as well.

Have a wonderwool day!

The Skirt is Khaki Green

Wednesday, May 19, 2010

I have no idea why it looks brown here.

Anyways, it has been a long time since I wore a bohemian maxi skirt (I recommended this in the newspaper article in the previous post) cause I cut up my one and only black bohemian skirt (I felt that it was too long and it ended up too short) a long time ago.

Tank, Topshop. Maxi skirt, Zara. Belt, Topshop. Bead bracelets, Topshop. Stretch bracelet, Diva. Ring set, F21. Sandals, Bugis.

FOYF In The Newspapers!

Monday, May 17, 2010

When I received an email from Lianhe Zaobao regarding an interview with me, I thought I was dreaming. I was like "Oh my god! Are you serious?", and yes they were dead serious about the interview. I'm so happy right now cause I've only started FOYF officially in March and it's already getting recognition. Phew. My efforts paid off.

For those who aren't local, Lianhe Zaobao is like the official Chinese morning paper in Singapore.

The article was published on Friday 14th May and it's in zbNOW page two (half a page!). The article is basically about FOYF and what are the 5 essentials I recommend for this summer.

(Click in the image for a full view)

Please don't mind my lousy vague translation.

Main Article:

Sun Weibin (my Chinese name) (21 years old) has a special affinity with shoes, when dressing up her shoes are usually the main focal point. She has more than 50 pairs of shoes and there's even a storeroom in her place just for shoes. She said: "My clothes change accordingly to the seasonal trends, however the life cycle of shoes are longer therefore I wear them for a long time."

She's currently studying in SIM Business Management and has no background in fashion design or fashion related studies, hence starting this blog in February (oops should be March) was entirely due to her passion for fashion.

When asked about how she differentiates herself from other bloggers, she said that positioning of the focus of the blog is very important hence she decided to focus on shoes. Other then that, she makes the effort to blog everyday and she does the styling, photographing and editing of photos all by herself.

In addition, she would feature local designers and go to flea markets to take photos of local street style. She said: "My blog does not only provide information on the latest fashion trends/news, I hope that by featuring more local designers, more people would be aware of their existence."

Sun Weibin recommends: 5 essentials for this summer
1) Maxi Skirts
She realised that a lot of designers had maxi skirts in their latest collections and she recommended the bohemian maxi skirts as they're more suitable for the weather in Singapore. Tight fitting cotton ones are fine as well.

2) Shoulder Bag
She's very knowledgeable about bags and said that shoulder bags are must haves. The bag must be relatively small, squarish and has an "air-stewardess" vibe to it. "I saw this Celine bag and felt that it's simple design plus the vintage vibe is very suitable for what we wear right now."

3) Rings
Wearing a ring to complete an outfit is like a cherry on top of a sundae. Choose a chunky/statement ring to add bonus points to the outfit.

4) Wedges
Being obsessed with shoes, she strongly recommends wedges for this summer. She said: "By wearing wedges, it gives you the height plus it is not as painful as compared to wearing heels."

5) Sunglasses
A pair of sunglasses protects the windows to your soul and it attracts other people's attention as well. In the blazing hot Singapore, a pair of quirky sunglasses is an essential.

The captions next to the photos are just pointers that re-emphasises my points.

Do correct me if I've made any major mistakes.

There a online version here and here, but it's just text.

Thanks for all the support!

Raphael Young

Saturday, May 15, 2010

I'll be leaving for a holiday soon and won't be back till the 23rd but no worries! I've got it covered and I'll still be posting regularly so don't go anywhere!

A reader introduced me to this website featuring shoes cause she knows that I love shoes and I found this designer, Raphael Young. Thanks Hwee En!

His shoes are all so structured and I'm loving it! There's a hint of other designers' design in some of the shoes as well. I wonder if he got the inspiration from them or they got their inspiration from him. Most of his shoes remind me of Balenciaga a lot!

Here are some of my favourites from his Spring Summer 2010 and Fall Winter 2009 collections.

SS10 design. Love the cracked gold and the 'blink and you'll miss it' heel design.

SS10 design. It's a bit LD Tuttle, no?

SS10 design.

FW09 design. This is my favourite of the bunch! The whole shoe is just perfect.

FW09 design. I wonder if Balenciaga got their inspiration from this design for their FW10 shoes.

FW09 design. LOVE the heel.
